The genre of writing that I noticed in the article was creative non-fiction. He added his own opinions which were included in the footnotes. It was also a satirical piece which were also within the footnotes. The footnotes were used to express his opinions in a humorous manner. He didn't want to include it in the article that he was writing to kind of prove his point but to people who were really interested. One way he used them was to express his distaste for tourists. He claimed that they were only good for economic purposes but other than that they were pointless. The article does shift topics. At one point he was explaining how lobster festivals attract tourists and then started to explain how when lobsters were boiled alive they were tortured. He says "Consider the Lobster" because he wants to prove that lobsters were able to feel pain when being boiled. He also states that lobsters aren't even that healthy so they are just being pointlessly eaten other than for profit.
